About

Photography uses proximity and distance to conceptualize, document, and beautify the world. Moving closer offers a new perspective, revealing intimate details and transforming the mundane into the sublime. Susan Sontag noted that photography can both distance and bring us closer to reality. Proximity fosters empathy and connection but may also confront discomfort or invade privacy. The Oslo Negativ Photo Festival 2025 explores these themes with "Closer."

This year's Preus Museum Open Call and Oslo Negativ Photo Festival share the theme "Closer."

What winners receive

The winner receives 20,000 NOK, a place in the Preus Museum collection, and exhibition at the Oslo Negativ Photo Festival 2025, with production costs and travel expenses covered. Preus Museum will curate the exhibition with the winner.
