In limbo Q&A I Ioana Rusu

1. Briefly introduce yourself: what do you like to do, what are the things that are important in your life?

I am a person who always needs to have a project underway, no matter how small, to keep

myself active and vibrant. I particularly enjoy beginnings, and I would love to live solely in

them because I constantly reinvent myself and tend to get bored quickly. That's also the reason why I feel the need to leave, to be on the road. I am in a constant search for experiences that inspire me. Apart from universally important things, I place a great emphasis on moral principles and passion\dedication.

2. What does photography mean to you?

The visual arts are my tool of expression, without which I don't think I would find a place

where I feel comfortable. Of course, there is also this emotional part that makes me connect

with myself and discover who I am. I question topics centered around the individual, and it's

inevitable not to find out where I stand in relation to them.

3. What or who inspires you in your own creative work?

I find inspiration in emotionally charged interactions, observing behavior and vulnerability. Simultaneously, events or actions that provoke my indignation linger within me, and when I regain clarity of mind, I instinctively seek to extract meaning from those experiences and share my interpretation with others.

4. What was the last topic you dealt with?

Two years ago, I initiated a project centered around migration and intergenerational dynamics. I temporarily set it aside for a while, and now I feel the need to revisit and resume it. I think it will be a book.

5. In your opinion, does Odorheiu Secuiesc need associations/communities that support contemporary art activities?

I learned more about Odorheiul Secuiesc through my interaction with the Off Space

association. Until then, I can't say I had a particular interest in the area, as smaller towns often lack a real artistic scene. However, Off Space seems to be a good example of what we, as artists and individuals passionate about art and the local community, should strive to achieve in our specific contexts.

6. What does it mean to you to be an artist from Iași or its surroundings?

Being a creator in Iasi fuels my desire to expand my activities to other areas. I believe this is

a sentiment shared by individuals who want to evolve in general and not necessarily something specific. Iasi holds potential with its existing galleries, institutions, associations, artistic events, and the eagerness to bring contemporary practices to the forefront. What seems to be lacking is a tangible bridge between an emerging artist and these established entities. As an art student, I can attest to having people who guided me into the real world.

I believe it's crucial to direct the audience towards the authentic realm of art. I'm not talking

about the familiar figures commonly seen at exhibitions, but rather those individuals who may be hesitant or apprehensive about embracing the unfamiliar. I think it's our responsibility as artists to stand for this, even through simple discussions and explanations.

7. What opportunities do you see in Off Space's initiatives and how does the association differ from similar organisations/initiatives in Odorheiu Secuiesc?

I see Off Space as an opportunity for exposure and collaboration among individuals who share the same aspirations.

8. What would you change in Odorheiu Secuiesc from an artistic point of view?

I am interested in any initiative and am actively seeking to learn how to make something

sustainable in the long run. At the same time, I believe in collaborations and connections, and Off Space seems to align perfectly with my aspirations.

9. What are your plans for the future?

I am planning to embark on internships, aiming to step out of my comfort zone. I am eager to

explore as many cultures, meet diverse people, and learn various practices as possible.
